as a non-jw, i am only beginning to grasp the real force of what i deem to be evil triplets, shunning, no contact with worldlies, and conditional love.
if you leave, you won't have any outside contacts and you will lose your family and friends; but, in the meantime, you are damned certain that you can't be sure they won't be taken away from you at any moment.. i think that the fact that true love and friendship can really develop among witnesses is a triumph of the human spirit.

The thought of having no friends in “the world” is what keeps many from leaving, especially for those who were born into the Borg, like myself. There’s a scripture they use, which goes along the lines of “where else are we to go?” and that is what they sincerely think. I used to think that!
It’s only when your conscience, your mental or spiritual health, or your life is in danger, that you realise that there’s worse things than leaving the JWs.

maybe, i have to just accept that a lot of jw's who are exiting the kh by the back door will never find a backbone to stand up to mummy and elder daddy.. jw's have a learned ability to see themselves in a better light than everyone else sees them.
ask a jw, if they are a charitable religion and they would likely all say they are, but when pressed to name a charity they will be unable to do so.

the inconsistancies result in uncertainty and that in itself becomes an additional form of control.. it is possible for someone who has only experienced only one or two congregations to read someone elses experience on a site like this one and may think, that does not happen in the organisation.
Cantleave, what you are talking about is double standards that applied to some elders and their families.
I say some because my dad was a very strict elder and we had to be “an example to the congregation”.

WTWizard, I was a 3 rd gen JW and my dad was an elder, and this is the first I’ve ever heard of such a concept.
The elders will teach you according to the strictness of their standards. They don’t inquire what you were taught when you first became a JW.

Snowbird, it’s probably nothing more than your intuition. Which is a pretty awesome thing in itself. It was my intuition which told me (when I eventually allowed myself to listen to it) to leave the JWs. I’m glad I finally wised up and listened to that voice inside me.
this doesn't happen a lot but every once in a while, on a day that used to be my meeting night, i'll get a weird feeling.

It takes time, but the feeling eventually goes away. It took me about a year.
